About
The Fathers of Saint Joseph Group Cork City Chapter was initiated by Fr. Marius O’Reilly to support fathers in embracing their vocation through the example of Saint Joseph. Over the years, as Fr. Marius moved on, the group has continued to thrive under the spiritual guidance and support of St. Mary’s Dominican Church, Shandon, Cork. This dedicated community provides a welcoming space for fathers to deepen their faith and reflect on their role as spiritual leaders within their families and communities.
Meeting Format
The group meets regularly (see the schedule page) and follows a structured yet simple format. Each gathering begins with Eucharistic Adoration, offering a sacred space for prayer, reflection, and connection with God. This is followed by group discussion centred on selected readings about fatherhood, inspired by the virtues of Saint Joseph. A volunteer begins by sharing a personal reflection on the reading, after which the discussion is opened to the group.
The combination of prayer, study, and fellowship helps members grow in their faith and strengthens their commitment to living out their vocation as fathers with integrity and love.
Readings
The Fathers of Saint Joseph group selects a book as the foundation for reflections during meetings, providing inspiration and guidance for fathers to grow in their vocation.
Currently, the group is reflecting on Lead by Devin Schadt. This powerful book explores the essence of fatherhood, encouraging men to embrace their God-given role as leaders in their families. Schadt draws from the example of Saint Joseph, offering practical advice and spiritual insights to help fathers navigate the challenges of modern life with faith, humility, and purpose. With a blend of theology, scripture, and real-life application, Lead inspires fathers to serve, protect, and guide their families as spiritual leaders.
